Environmentalists Applaud Gov. Cuomo’s Clean Energy & Climate Change Announcements in State of the State

Advocates including actor Mark Ruffalo respond to the Governor’s address

Albany – In his State of the State address, Governor Cuomo announced several important environmental, clean energy, and climate change proposals and initiatives. These measures move New York even further on environmental and climate issues, making the state a national and international leader. Among the announcements, Governor Cuomo committed to developing more renewable energy and clean jobs, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting the Hudson River, and moving to end investments in fossil fuels.

Actor and advocate Mark Ruffalo said, “Hats off to Governor Cuomo for leading on clean energy and climate change! The governor’s bold commitments and investments make New York State the center of exciting progress on renewable energy and the many good jobs that come with it.”

Julia Walsh, Campaign Director of Frack Action, said, “With his State of the State announcements, Governor Cuomo is taking bold steps to bring more renewable energy online across New York State. The governor is also rightly moving to stop fossil fuel investments and to divest. Thanks to the governor for leading on climate change and showing the nation and the world a positive path forward.”

Ramsay Adams, Executive Director of Catskill Mountainkeeper, said, “From vowing to sue if the federal government doesn’t protect the Hudson River, to calling on Comptroller DiNapoli to stop fossil-fuel investments, to expanding access to Solar Power for low income New Yorkers, and expanding renewable energy, Governor Cuomo announced great steps forward. At a time when the federal government is attacking the environment and our future, Governor Cuomo’s leadership is a bright spot. We’re calling on governor Cuomo to meet and exceed these goals in 2018 and look forward to partnering with him to build the clean energy future we need.
